What is the Honda One Make Race?

What is the Honda One Make Race?

More than 40 years ago, the popular "One Make Race" presented by Honda was created. This race was based on a simple idea, to seek maximum participation by using a popular FF (Front Wheel Drive) car with the intention of encouraging locals to try car racing. Due to the low cost of purchase and modification of the Civic, this competition was a success. This event raised high interest among fans, performance shops and even popular riders of the time.

WHAT MODEL STARTED THIS TRADITION?

The Civic models with which this tradition was inaugurated in 1981 are the SR Civic, or better known as the second generation Civic. The top-of-the-range version had a 1500cc engine that produced 69CV.

THIRD GENERATION CIVIC (WONDER CIVIC).

In 1985 the third generation Civic AT/AH known as the "Wonder Civic" was entered into these races. A DOHC engine under the ZC name was first introduced in this chassis, in Europe known as the D16A9.

During these years the "Civic Driving School" created by Mr. Satoru Nakayama was created. (possible inspiration from the TODO school in the Initial D series).

FOURTH GENERATION CIVIC.

In the early 1990s, the first Civic with the famous VTEC system, the EF9, (EE9 in Europe) was introduced. This one mounted the B16A that shared mechanics with the CR-X EF8, (EE8 in Europe) that also ran in the "One Make Race" races.

TODAY.

Over the years, generation after generation of other models such as the Honda Beat, Fit/Jazz, Accord and more were added. They were also moving to other circuits apart from Suzuka Circuit.

Here we can see the "Raytec Autoworks" Honda Fit running in the compact category.

And in this photo we can see the Ikegami-San CR-X Del Sol "EG2" with the WHARP RACING lettering inspired by the JACCS fifth generation Civic in the old JTCC (Japanese Touring Car Championship), this being one of our favorites in the current "One Make Race".

CATEGORIES OF THE "ONE MAKE RACE".

There are currently two types of race, one organized by the Zerofighter company, known as the "Honda VTEC One Make" geared towards VTEC-equipped vehicles.

The other type of race is organized by Aslan Inc. under the name "Honda One Make Series" geared towards vehicles not equipped with VTEC.

Both editions are held together and around 6 times a year at circuits such as Suzuka, Central Cirucit, Nakayama and Okinawa.
